Necole Leckie of Granite was recently diagnosed with skin cancer that has spread. A benefit dinner is being hosted by the Granite Fire Department to help lift some of the financial burden on this family. The dinner will be held Sunday, Oct. 8 at the Granite Senior Center, 407 N. Main in Granite, from 11:30 AM to 2 PM.

There are only 13 state in the US that still charge a grocery tax, with one of them being Oklahoma. Mangum resident Misty Peñuelas has started a petition to eliminate the state portion of the grocery tax with her group Citizens Against Taxation. “Having that extra 10 percent added onto our groceries really places an extra financial burden on many families,” she said.

Because of shortages various things during World War II, like rubber, metal, clothes and food, the US government’s Office of Price Administration established a system of rationing in 1942 that would more fairly distribute foods that were in short supply.

We would like to thank all the people, paid or volunteer who helped make our Museum what it is today, without all the previous work what we have now would not be possible! We would also like to thank the Greer County Economic Development Authority for granting us the cost for bringing Kevin Black Photographer & Printmaker for our 50th Anniversary.
