Mangum softball head coach Coach, Bryne Binghom takes a look back at a a summer’s work encouraged by the efforts of his young softballers.

“We have had great effort and attendance this summer,” said Binghom. “If anybody has missed it was because they were either playing travel ball somewhere or church camp. Both of those are great things for our girls. I am anxious to get them all together after coaches clinic this week and to jump into the season. Our seniors Hadley Zachary, Landri Lively, Madyson Paxton, Morgan White and Messina Taylor have really set a great tone so far.

We are going to play a little differently than we did last year using our speed and playing a lot more small ball and all these girls have bought into that and jumped right in. Defensively, we are going to be as good as anybody around and that has to continue to be our anchor.

We have more flexibility in positions this year which is really going to help. Brynne Woodress and Madyson will be our two pitchers and they just keep getting better every week. If they will throw strikes and let the defense work for them it’s going to be a really good combination no matter who is pitching.

Holly Leamon Webb is a hitter who has had a good summer. She is so athletic and can do so many things offensively and defensively.

I’m looking for her to have a great junior year. We are looking forward to our younger ones as well Laramie Griffis has had an amazing summer and really improved. We are really excited about our two freshman move-ins, Hanna Steyr and Ali Davenport.

Both bring a bunch of softball experience with them and we are excited to have them with us this year. Our other younger ones Krystian Rankins, Jolee Stuchell and Cadence Cooper are really going to provide us depth and really help us on the base baths. I’m really looking forward to seeing what this group can accomplish this year. Also, I am really excited about our junior high group.

The majority of this group started as 7th graders last year that went 11-4.

The work this group has put in this summer in the weight room right along side the high school group has been incredible and you can see it physically.

They have also work reps on the field throughout our summer leagues. I’m expecting great things out of our JH group this year.”
