Betty Ann Breeding

Posted

Betty passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones after a wonderful life of 92 years. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Gene Breeding. With Gene being in the military, they lived in a number of countries and states throughout their marriage. Betty enjoyed the chance to move from base to base as Gene was reassigned. Her adventurous spirit and easy-going personality made her a wonderful wife, mom, and grandma.

Betty was born on January 25, 1930, to Scott and Hettie Smith. Betty’s grandfather was a member of the Creek Indian Nation, and the founding father of Henryetta, Oklahoma. It was in Henryetta where she met the love of her life, Gere Breeding. She began her career as a cosmetologist and worked a variety of other jobs before deciding to become a full-time mom and godmother. Betty was a person of faith and lived her life serving others. She loved cards, puzzles, shopping, and going out to lunch with friends. Most of all, she loved her dog, Pepper.

Betty is survived in death by her daughter, Caroline, daughter-in-law, Sheri, grandchildren, Zachary and Sydney, and loyal companion, Pepper. She and Gene also helped raise a goddaughter, Lacie, daughter of Debra Campbell, and her children Dylan, Drayden, and Jaynie, who live in Texas.

A viewing and memorial service celebrating Betty’s life was held Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 10:00 am at the Church of Christ, 5880 Thornton Avenue, Newark, CA.  A luncheon was held after the memorial, at Caroline and Sheri’s home. She was buried at the Sacramento Valley National Veterans Cemetery alongside her husband, Gene.
