New books chronicles SW Oklahoma women

A mother-and-daughter team of Jackson County Oklahoma have published two new books which cover the lives and stories of the women of southwest Oklahoma’s five counties. “Prairie Mothers In Their Own Words” is drawn from interviews with 51 local women, which were collected for over a decade by local biographer Glyna Marple Olson and her daughter, Lisa Olson Rogers of Edmond.
Free low-to-moderate tax preparation offered

City receives funds to install new automatic remote meters

The City of Mangum has secured a grant to install automatic remote meters which will eliminate City workers from having to go out with handheld devices to read water meters each month. “The grant makes this project 100% financed,” said Mangum Mayor Jackie Menasco. “This will save a lot of man hours each week,” she Menasco.
Kindergarten students receive tooth pillows

Mangum Kindergarten students observed Children’s Dental Health Month this past week as part of the Children’s Dental Health Program. The program is made possible through a joint educational effort with Greer County Quilt Guild and the Greer County OSU Extension Service.
Deadline to change party affiliation approaches

Oklahomans who want to change their party affi liation must submit their change no later than March 31, Greer County Election Board Secretary Debi Davis said today. Voters may change their party affiliation online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma. gov/elections/ovp or by completing a new Voter Registration Application.
Stolen vehicle arrest made after high speed chase

Greer County Central dispatch received a 911 on Tuesday about a vehicle that was stolen out of Granite and was being followed by a reporting party traveling west out of Granite on Highway 9 at a high rate of speed.
Renewal of contract with County ambulance service on March 5 agenda

The Mangum City Commissioners are expected to approve the renewal of a contract with the county’s ambulance service at their March 5 meeting without raising the cost to residents in Mangum and Granite, who pay $12 per month or $144 per year through their utility bills.
Traffic stop turns into physical altercation with police

Mangum Police received a call of a vehicle repeatedly striking another vehicle over and over in the 500 block of E. Jefferson on Tuesday around 12:30 AM. When Police Chief Lance Taylor arrived on the scene he observed a Toyota pickup sideways against a blue car.
