South western Oklahoma’s history goes way back in time, in a test excavation west of Mangum, OK in the 1960’s they found a village that dates to about 830 BC! Around 1791, the Santa Fe trail was established by Spanish explorers under authority of the government of Spain. It was used by trappers, traders and explorers traveling from the Spanish settlement at Santa Fe to Natichitoches on Red River, in what is now the State of Louisiana.
