Suspect in custody

Late Friday night, Sept. 1, the Greer County Sheriff’s Office received information stating that Zachary Somers, who was wanted in connection to a case out of Granite, was located at a residence in Mangum. According to reports, officers from the Mangum and Granite Police Departments joined the Sheriff’s Office in responding to that information. Law enforcement personnel converged on the residence and made contact with the individuals inside and searched the property. Somers was found hiding on the property and was taken into custody without incident.

Homecoming Ceremony at Liberty Bowl Tonight

The 2023 MHS Football Homecoming coronation ceremony will be held tonight at the Liberty Bowl at 6:30 PM. Three boys and three girls were selected by the football team after going through the eligibility process, The student body voted for the queen and king by secret ballot earlier today. Here are the queen and king candidates: Jaylyn Hamon is the first queen candidate. She is the daughter of Dirk and Holly Hamon. Jaylyn has two siblings: Makayla and Derek Hamon. Her activities include cheer—4 years; track—4 years; showing livestock—4 years; softball—1 year; FFA—1year; and National Honor Society—3 years. Jaylyn’s awards include class president—2021 and 2024; 2024 All-American Cheerleader; 2022 state track qualifier; and an offer to cheer for Universal Cheer Team. After graduation, Jaylyn plans to attend Oklahoma State University to continue cheerleading and earn a degree in education or nursing.

Refuge to celebrate National Public Lands Day

On Saturday, Sept. 23 volunteers at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge will join hundreds of thousands of fellow Americans on public lands across the country to celebrate National Public Lands Day. Participants will be giving back to the lands where we play, learn, exercise, and relax in celebration of the annual National Public Lands Day (NPLD) – the nation’s largest singleday volunteer effort for public lands.

The Methodist Church will be having a Weekly Wednesday Gathering for the Mangum Community beginning September 6. Doors open at 10am for visiting, music and board games. A FREE hot lunch will be served 11:30am – 12:30pm. This is open to anyone who needs a meal or just companionship.
