STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma students get more than instruction in reading, writing and arithmetic at school – it’s also where they get a nutritious lunch. With the school year ending in a few weeks, families struggling with food insecurity will need to fill that gap.

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: After taking my Terrier “Hank” for a walk around my subdivision yesterday, I noticed when taking off his leash that a tick had attached itself to the back of his neck! I don’t even know where it came from; we stayed on the sidewalk. I quickly tried to remove it with tweezers, but Hank is kind of a wiggly guy, and just as I tugged on the tick, he moved and the body of the tick broke off ! It looks like the tick’s head is still embedded in his skin.

Oklahoma State University Extension has launched a curriculum to educate high school and 4-H students about the Farm Bill. “There are bits and pieces of policy curriculum taught in high schools,” said Amy Hagerman, OSU Extension specialist for agriculture and food policy.

With graduation just around the corner, there are several meetings and events scheduled for graduating Mangum High School Seniors and their parents. Prom, themed “Diamonds are Forever” is set for this Saturday, April 13.

The Granite Fire Association will be holding a pulled pork lunch this Sunday, April 14 as a fundraiser for Granite’s 4th of July celebration. The lunch will be held at the Senior Center from 11 AM to 2 PM and cost is by donation only.
